Frequently Asked Questions
Why might DuetDHAec be right for me?

Wherever you are in your journey – planning to conceive, pregnant or breast-feeding, smart nutrition and nutritional support are essential for your health and your baby’s development. Getting the right nutritional support all the way through your pregnancy can have long-term positive benefits for you both (Bartley 2005).

A typical diet does not provide enough of the right vitamins, minerals, and nutrients for this important time (Bartley 2005; ACOG Patient Education: Nutrition During Pregnancy 2007; Guidelines for Perinatal Care: AAP and ACOG 2002).

Which is why DuetDHAec is specially formulated for the Mom-to-be.

What does my body need during pregnancy that I might not already be getting?

Both your needs and those of your baby will change throughout your pregnancy.

For example:

  • Folic acid is important before conception and during the early months to prevent birth defects of the brain or spinal cord (March of Dimes 2005)
  • Vitamin B6 may help reduce the nausea of morning sickness (Sahakian 1991)
  • Omega-3 long chain fatty acids like DHA and EPA have been linked to baby’s brain and eye development (Hornstra 2000; Uauy 2001)
  • Iron helps your red blood cells carry oxygen to your growing child (RDA 10th Edition 1989)
  • Vitamin A supports bone growth, healthy skin and immune development (RDA 10th Edition 1989)
  • Vitamin B6 helps form red blood cells (RDA 10th Edition 1989)

DuetDHAec contains 17 vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to help you stay healthy and your baby grow healthy.

What time of day do I take DuetDHAec?

You take it once a day at the time that’s right for you. Each dose contains a tablet and an enteric-coated softgel which can be taken together or individually.

Do I take it with food?

That’s up to you.

We know that up to 40% of women stop taking their prenatal vitamins because of side effects – mostly stomach and digestive problems. DuetDHAec was developed with your comfort and well-being – and your baby’s development - in mind.(Dawson 2000).

DuetDHAec has been designed to be well tolerated because if you can’t take your vitamin, it can’t help you.

I’m going to be very careful about my diet during pregnancy. Won’t that be enough?

We encourage you to pay attention to what you eat and drink during this important time. But your nutrition needs –and those of your baby – change significantly throughout pregnancy. The American College of Obstetricians & Gynelcologists suggests that you consume about 300 additional calories a day when pregnant (ACOG Patient Education: Nutrition During Pregnancy 2007).

But calories aren’t everything. You may need higher levels of certain vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 long chain fatty acids than you are likely to get from the average daily diet (Bartley 2005; Hibbeln 2006).

This is a busy time, and you've got a lot at stake. DuetDHAec might be the way to meet your changing needs.

As with any prescription-strength product containing folic acid, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, or vitamins D and E, please adhere carefully to the recommended dosages. Folic acid may obscure the diagnosis of pernicious anemia. Supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids should be avoided in patients with inherited or acquired bleeding diatheses, including those taking anticoagulants. Keep this and all iron-containing products out of the reach of children. See full Prescribing Information for complete usage and safety data.
